About Don Strong

Don Strong is a Minneapolis-based producer, writer, filmmaker and master teaching artist. He began his career in New York City in the mid-1980’s as a writer/producer for Def Jam urban R&B artists. Don Strong brings the interdisciplinary perspective of a composer, writer, musician, and lyricist to the creative process.

Strong’s start in the collaborative world of cinema included composing musical scores for two short dramatic films by NYU graduate student filmmakers. One of those films, King’s Road, directed by Joe Rosado, won the Grand Prize at the Mobil Film Competition.  

As a filmmaker, Don graduated from Minneapolis College’s Cinema Division with honors in screenwriting in 2007, and producing for cinema with honors in 2013. He has completed a narrative feature script as well as producing several narrative shorts and a pilot show for The Food Network.

Don has produced and collaborated with artists in a wide range of genres spanning singer-songwriter, jazz, acoustic pop, Americana, and Alternative. Don is currently active in the fertile Minneapolis music scene as an organizer, performer and showcase producer for Songwriters Circle /Twin Cities LLC, a non-profit organization he founded in 2014, serving local artists at all levels of creative and professional growth.
